Job Summary
C4 Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our Accounting & Finance team at a pivotal moment in our growth. Reporting to the Controller, this role will be a key technical and operational leader within Accounting, with ownership over the close process, internal controls, and several of C4T’s most complex accounting areas, including collaboration revenue, clinical trial accruals, and equity compensation. This is a highly visible role for an accountant who enjoys both the technical rigor of public company accounting and the opportunity to build and mentor a growing team. As C4T advances its pipeline into Phase 3 clinical trials and begins commercial readiness activities, this individual will play an instrumental role in scaling the accounting function – including building out the team, implementing new systems, and furthering our automation and AI integration efforts.
Your Role
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and public company reporting standards.
- Review balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules prepared by the accounting team, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of open items.
- Own collaboration revenue accounting, including analysis of collaboration and license agreements under ASC 606, recognition of upfront, milestone, and royalty payments, and related disclosures.
- Oversee the Company’s equity compensation program and stock-based compensation accounting, including option, RSU, and ESPP activity, ASC 718 accounting, and common share/equity pool reconciliations.
- Own and manage the Company’s SOX internal control environment, including control design, execution, documentation, and remediation, partnering with internal and external auditors as needed.
- Play a key role in the preparation, review, and analysis of significant clinical trial accruals, partnering closely with Clinical Operations and CRO vendors to ensure accurate estimates and timely reporting.
- Serve as a mentor to and collaborate closely with other members of the Accounting team, fostering technical development, engagement, and a strong team culture.
- Work closely with the Controller and SVP, Finance & Accounting on financial reporting, forecasting, and cross-functional initiatives that support the broader Finance organization.
- Help build out the Accounting team as C4T advances into Phase 3 clinical trials and commercial readiness activities, including participating in hiring, onboarding, and development of new team members.
- Lead or support the implementation of new systems and process improvements, furthering the team’s automation and AI integration initiatives to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Partner with external auditors on quarterly reviews and the annual audit, including preparation of audit schedules and timely resolution of requests.
- Research and document technical accounting matters and support the implementation of new accounting standards as applicable.
- Perform other related duties and ad hoc projects as required by the position.
Your Background
Required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of eight years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and life science industry experience, with increasing levels of responsibility, as well as an active CPA License.
- Experience with revenue accounting, including revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP (ASC 606).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX 404 internal control requirements, and public company reporting standards.
- A genuine passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing team members, with a track record of building strong, engaged teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with strong cross-functional partnering, organizational and project management skills.
Preferred:
- Advanced Degree in Accounting
- Experience with commercial readiness activities or commercial-stage accounting (e.g., product revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting).
- Experience with the implementation of accounting systems, including ERP’s, and AI tools.
Compensation
The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $210,520.00 and $232,680.00 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
