About the role

Application Engineering Intern – Mechanical Engineering

Critical Systems, LLC is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Application Engineering team. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting the design, development, and application of mechanical systems used in data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other critical infrastructure environments.

The ideal candidate is a current Mechanical Engineering student who is interested in applying classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects and learning how mechanical systems are selected, designed, specified, and integrated into complex building environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Application Engineers with the selection and application of mechanical and HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Support engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and technical evaluations.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment documentation.
  • Assist with preparing equipment selections, proposals, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Research equipment, manufacturers, and applicable technical requirements.
  • Support engineers in evaluating project requirements and developing appropriate technical solutions.
  • Assist with CAD drawings, system layouts, and other engineering documentation as needed.
  • Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the coordination of mechanical systems with other building disciplines.
  • Learn how mechanical systems are applied in mission-critical environments where reliability, efficiency, and performance are essential.
  • Perform other engineering-related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong interest in HVAC, building systems, mechanical equipment, or engineering applications.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

What You Will Gain

This internship will provide exposure to real-world mechanical engineering applications and the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers. The intern will develop practical knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment selection, engineering calculations, construction documents, and critical infrastructure projects while gaining an understanding of how engineering decisions are made from concept through implementation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering student who wants to build practical engineering experience and explore a career in Application Engineering and HVAC/mechanical systems.
