About the role

Description

RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, actuators, and position sensing solutions. Since 1975, we've supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. Headquartered in St. George, Utah, our advanced manufacturing facility produces the precision solenoids, valves, and actuators that aerospace programs worldwide depend on. Our Valencia facility extends that capability with specialized manufacturing of LVDTs and RVDTs, critical position sensing devices used across a broad range of aerospace and defense applications. As one of Southern Utah's largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From both facilities, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

If you want to understand what quality engineering looks like in a real aerospace manufacturing environment, RAM Aerospace is the place to find out. As a Quality Engineering Intern, you will spend a semester working alongside RAM's Quality team, getting hands-on exposure to the full range of quality functions that keep our precision components meeting the exacting standards of commercial and defense customers worldwide. From quality systems and documentation to inspection support, nonconformance processing, and corrective action, you will contribute to meaningful work from your first week while building the practical skills and industry knowledge that classroom learning alone cannot provide. This is a part-time, semester-based role designed to give motivated engineering students a genuine look inside the quality function of an aerospace manufacturer and a competitive edge as they enter the workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quality Systems & Documentation Support: Assist the Quality Engineering team in maintaining and improving RAM's AS9100-compliant quality management system. Support the development, review, and updating of quality procedures, work instructions, and controlled documents, gaining firsthand exposure to how a quality system operates in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Inspection & Measurement Support: Shadow and support RAM's inspection team on the shop floor, learning how dimensional and mechanical inspection is performed on precision aerospace components. Gain familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, and the precision measurement instruments used to verify that parts meet specification.
  • Nonconformance & Corrective Action Support: Assist in the documentation and tracking of nonconforming material reports (NCRs) and corrective action requests (CARs). Support root cause analysis efforts using structured problem-solving tools and learn how RAM drives effective, lasting corrective action across the organization.
  • Quality Metrics & Data Analysis: Support the collection, organization, and analysis of quality performance data including defect trends, inspection yields, and supplier quality metrics. Assist in preparing reports and visual dashboards that give the Quality team and leadership clear visibility into quality performance across the operation.
  • Audit & Compliance Support: Assist in the preparation and execution of internal quality audits, gaining exposure to audit methodology and the discipline required to maintain compliance with AS9100 and customer quality requirements in a defense manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum sophomore standing required. Junior or senior standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of quality engineering concepts gained through coursework, including statistics, inspection methods, or quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and GD&T concepts preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to accuracy in both technical work and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data organization and basic analysis.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, technically demanding aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work accurately and collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and shop floor personnel.
