About the role

Standard Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join the HIMARS Common Fire Control System (CFCS) team, working on next-generation fire control software for a critical tactical weapon system.
You'll contribute to the design, development, and integration of embedded and test software that bridges hardware and software across a complex, real-time platform.

This role requires a strong foundation in C/C++ and/or Python, hands-on experience working with hardware interfaces (sensors, actuators, communication buses, test equipment), and the ability to debug and troubleshoot across the full stack—from low-level drivers to application logic.

You'll collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and test engineers to deliver reliable, mission-critical software in a fast-paced, Agile environment.

We're looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of software and hardware, brings professional experience, and is eager to grow their skillset on a high-visibility defense program.

Basic Qualifications

  • STEM degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Professional software development experience beyond college coursework (internships, co-ops, or full-time roles).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python for embedded systems, test automation, or application development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with hardware systems: reading schematics, interfacing with test equipment, debugging hardware/software integration issues, or developing drivers/firmware.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git, SVN) and software configuration management practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with LabVIEW for test automation, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing, or instrumentation control.
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) or embedded Linux development.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-485, CAN bus, Ethernet, or MIL-STD-1553.
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience using tools like Jira or Confluence.
