About the role

About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

The AIGC Platform is the foundational infrastructure responsible for the entire lifecycle of AI-generated content (AI Overviews and AI Cards), including LLM-based topic ingestion, content clustering, summary generation, quality evaluation, and publishing. Our platform enables product teams to rapidly develop and experiment with new AI-first formats, transforming the Discover feed into a dynamic, AI-powered knowledge and entertainment companion. We ensure that AI-generated content is fresh, factual, grounded, and safely delivered to millions of users globally by integrating rigorous automated quality gates and efficient LLM agentic workflows. By centralizing AIGC creation, we enable optimizing heavy compute resources and streamlining the pipeline from real-world events to personalized user feeds and notifications.

In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. In joining the Search team, you'll have an opportunity to make an impact on billions of people globally.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable backend infrastructure, data pipelines, and software solutions for the AIGC Platform.
  • Build scalable, low-latency, and high-throughput streaming and batch data pipelines to handle massive content ingestion, clustering, deduplication, and publishing to serving indexes.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including Product Managers, UX, Data Scientists, Quality teams and downstream Ranking/Retrieval teams, to drive technical designs and unblock new AI content use cases.
  • Analyze and optimize system performance, pipeline latency, monitor service health, and manage compute capacity to ensure operational excellence.
  • Make independent technical contributions and deliver on end-to-end tasks within the platform's broader transformation goals.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++ or Python).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and scaling high-performance, data-intensive distributed backend systems and data processing pipelines.
  • Experience with frameworks and tools relevant to AI/ML development, LLM inference, agent-based architectures, and generative AI deployment.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, content recommendation systems, search technologies, or information retrieval.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of thriving in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, and excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple specialized engineering and product teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++ or Python).
In most instances, this position requires in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
